Message re Novel Coronavirus
Posted 1/28/20

Dear CUSD Families,

Over recent weeks, during the normal cold and flu season, Capistrano Unified School District has monitored our students’ health and been in communication with the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA). As you may be aware from news reports, a case of the novel (new) coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has been confirmed in Orange County. We will continue to communicate with OCHCA to ensure our District community is both safe and prepared.  Updates to the community will continue to be provided through the Orange County Health Care Agency novel coronavirus website and the District’s Communication Department.

To our knowledge, the confirmed case of novel coronavirus is not a member of the District’s community. Additionally, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has stated that there is no evidence that person-to-person transmission has occurred in Orange County, and that the current risk of local transmission remains low.

Recommendations for Families

It is recommended that families continue to monitor the health and well-being of their children and themselves, and take all necessary, routine precautions that we would expect: washing hands, remaining home from school for at least 24-hours following any symptoms of illness, and consulting with your family's primary care physician, as appropriate.

The District will continue to work closely with the Orange County Health Care Agency and will provide additional updates regarding the novel coronavirus when new information is available.
